can anyone tell me where to get a free dvd ripper.

 

and do i need a special dvd drive or does a dvd rom drive work fine?

DVDFab Decrypter is good for ripping them.

 

and no all you need is a DVD-ROM (or better) drive to rip DVDs, You do need a DVD+/-RW drive to burn DVDs though.

thanks ill look it up. but i won't need a dvd writer cause im just putting the movies on my nds.

i tryed using that dvd ripper and it didn't save the dvd as a file instead it saved it as a bunch of files and no audio. any other good rippers?

You didnt state what format you wanted to end up with. Im assuming you want to rip your dvd to avi? If so then you could use Nero, DVD2AVI, AutoGordianKnot, CCE, Mainconcept, TMPEGEnc etc etc. You would be better advised to go to Videohelp.com to get started with tutorials. DVD Decrypter will only rip to .vob/ts/bup/ifo ie raw dvd video files, or an iso, neither of which I think you want.
