No restrictions from my folks i was a straight A student all through school, so whenever i asked for a system or a game i usually got it. it was a useful tool in relieving stress from school or all night study sessions. plus i took part in martial arts and other outdoor activities as a kid so i wasnt a total game zombie. like cinder i try to get my kid to game too and its helping with his memory skills hes in kindergarten and got placed in 1st grade reading and math, i doubt gaming had anything to do with it i just had to brag on my kid!!!

oh man, My parents had the attitude that they weren't into games because they where busy doing other stuff (which was probably true) and it seemed like they didn't want me to play games because they heard somewhere it was bad but didn't really have a reason for it (although i was a kid so what did I know)

FINALLY i was able to convince them to let me get a console of my own, because me and my brother had saved all our money for it, it took years and years of begging, but damn was it worth it.

after that they tried to limit the violent games, and whenever i did something wrong it was always the first thing to go. Then when I was old enough they let me do whatever as long as my grades where good.

Pretty smart, they checked the ratings and all that, i wish parents would do that nowadays >_<

I really dont see the point in age restricting games. it promotes imagination and other things our lives could use. it's when children are sheltered that they believe that the games that they play are real but thats a whole new argument. eh, strong issue.

Ratings are there for a reason. As a parent, you wouldn't want to expose your child to unneccessary violence and sex elements too early though. Parental guidance is a must in this case. I like what IJTF Cinder and solidus did for their children. I have the same thing in mind too when I will have my own child :P

My mother has never liked me playing video games, which is why I haven't owned a single gaming console apart from the original Gameboy until I bought the PSX in 1998 with my own money.

So I sorta spent my yyouth playing video games at my friend's house.

She still complains every now and then when I spent hours playing something, but she has also said on a few occasions that playing games has helped me in various ways, including learning english fast and easy, learning to like many different styles of music and improving my motor and reaction skills.

Back in 85. right before NES, I would borrow my Uncles Atari, When that happened, my Mom would give me a 30 min time limit. Then NES came out. One night at dinner, I asked if they wanted to do something. A strange question, Unprecedented from there 7 year old son. They asked what. I asked if we could pick up the NES, And they agreed, with no argument. I was so surprised!!! Once I had the NES she never gave me a time limit, and like someone stated earlier, there wasn't real mature games & I got good grades and all so restrictions were never necessary.

To tell you the truth, I play more games now than I ever did growing up. I would definitely keep my children in check with the gaming. Although I don't want to shelter my children (none yet) I agree with L.S.D.

And yea, we all agree games have improved certain attributes. Hell, I can macro-manage like no-body business (RTS) and I damn sure know how to secure a location (FPS) and all the games combined have boosted my coordination. Not to mention the critical thinking skills certain games nourish.

All this B.S. about games corrupting our youth is just that.... B.S. You never seen me finish someone like SubZero..... It's all about the personal needs of each individual. Some parents are screwed up and there kids come out fine. Some parents seem ok, but they pay no attention to there kids, and they sometimes turn out doing something unthinkable. We are all unique, and so, each handle certain things differently. It's up to us to guide our children toward the right path, and show them what you are made of. They are sponges, absorbing everything around them. They are going to make there own decisions no matter what you think you can do. So the only thing you CAN do is live through example.

Sorry.... I always seem to talk to much, even in text.
