Hunting for latest XBOX360

Hi,

Since a lot of you own an XBOX360 already, can you tell me how to identify the latest version (the one with HDMI on it or something?) This version is supposed to have the RROD solved.

Thanks

Uhh 1, you look on the box for an HDMI logo, 2 the Halo Edition uses the Falcon and the Elite uses Zephyr boards. You can't however tell which units have the latest heatsink setups etc. You may still get an Elite or Pro with the older heatsinks, but the Halo editions are most certainly safe.

People are still having trouble regardless though, I'd wait until news of Jasper motherboards. Current speculation on Falcon boards seem to point to, at most 80nm half-node process and not 65nm which would be even less power hungry......and cooler.

If you get an XBOX 360 Arcade, or a Pro with Forza + Viva Pinata, they are guaranteed to have HDMI.

It also says on their boxes. They are the latest hardware configs so far. The Elite and Halo editions have HDMI, but might not have the other latest stuff depending on your local inventory.

Can you get a Falcon with an older heatsink? Does it have anything to do with the wattage? I read some have the "175w power supply label on the box" -- what does that indicate? And can you tell me more about the Jasper motherboards?

XBOX 360 Arcade also has HDMI and I think it's the most consumer smart to purchase. Hell, it's only $280.

Here's a great site: http://www.360drives.com/list

Jasper has all 65nm processes for all chips. It won't be out till Q4 2008 though so don't count on it.

I disagree that the Arcade is the best purchase. The Pro is the best deal overall- without a HDD you are locking yourself out of;

-Downloadable Content

-XBOX1 BC

-Live Demos, Trailers, Bigger Arcade Games...

You miss out on a lot of the fun stuff the 360 has if you don't have an HDD. And given the price of the drive on its own, its not exactly feasible to get it later.

Why do we need a HDD for XBOX1 BC?

EDIT: FOund out from the local pirate that you will risked getting banned when go Live and you can't unblocked it.

Yeh it blacklists your console's ID.

The BC program is huge- it has specialised XBOX 360 executables for the games running from the HDD. It also copies / caches / converts certain data and runs that from the HDD too... depending on the game. All up the backwards compatibility partition is about 4-6GB.

Btw don't listen to exzapel on IRC. Modding an XBOX is hard, requires hardware dismantling and a lot more than just a SATA controller. 10 times as difficult and risky as modding a PSP at least. It can, and will be BANNED as well. Flashed firmware is the first thing MS looks for when they go on their banning sprees.

Modding an XBOX 360 is hard depending on the tutorial you're using. Although I've never done it (yet), there is a great noobs tutorial to flash the BenQ drive.

As for the XBOX 360 Arcade, I personally wouldn't use the hard drive because I'm not going to pay for XBOX Live and I already have a regular XBOX to play regular XBOX games. At the same time, I really do want to buy the new Street Fighter. Meh.....
