Gryph Posted December 19, 2007 Author Posted December 19, 2007 The game doesn't use UE 3.0. I don't understand why everyone has a hard-on for that engine. It's not that great. And as an ingame model that is very good. Most other models we see for games have characters with clothes and huge armor on them so it is easy to hide a lot of details we fill in when we see a real human such as with this Duke picture.
Reaper man Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 wow, they actually delivered, holy shit... I guess that means we'll be seeing a lot more media from them huh?
Inky Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 well this isn't the first DNF trailer ever released.........
Reaper man Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 well it IS the first trailer released in like, 6 years... hopefully they won't change engines again, and I doubt they will.
L.S.D Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Well, the graphic look ok and look next gen enough for me. Why's the complaint? Congratulation, Gryph. Your wait seems to be coming ot an end.....

Similarly I have beef with Source engine all around as well. The screenshot is still crap, but the trailer is quiet satisfactory in my tastes. Wasn't the last interm report said they we're using a version of the UT engine (Pre 3.0) then changed to another? However, my gripe is that the model looks a little, off, for the lack of a better term (awful wouldn't be the right word). I am excited though, another thing is, I can't say I got married and DNF still didn't come out (Alot of people can claim that between 1997 and up until the release of the game though).
BlackKnight Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 People consider Unreal Engine 3 a 'cheap' engine. Not being particularly technical or someone who keeps up with shaders or runs an SLI machine, what is wrong with the engine? So far I like the games that use it.
Gryph Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 Great article at Rock, Paper, Scissors called "Duke Nukem Taking Forever: So What?" http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=771 UE3 is a fine engine but it bugs me when people think it is the end all be all of all engines. I see it so often. I don't know, it's fairly irrational of me.
BlackKnight Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Ahk. Its just that the long list of licensees that use it, not to mention the longer list of UE2 users, gives that impression. You see those 'powered by Unreal technology' ads everywhere.
Skythe Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Dissing the Duke is similar to publically announcing you got herpes in the face.Callin it how I see it. Duke is awesome, but wow, we've waited 10 years for something that looks like this? No thanks. improve graphix kthx My statement also applies to graphic bitchings too. Fact!
