Shoma
In my day I came across three differnt retired voice actors and they all said I have the gift for it. naturally I was pursuing this before i met these people and the fact they're retired doesnt make me value thier opinions too much either but anyway...where do i go about starting this career?I couldnt find many sites that has it layered out... I know there are subscriptions and sites that list these for actors of all sort.I'd make a demo reel of various voices that you can do, saying at least a full sentence in each.Make a video and upload it to Youtube. There's a guy on there that has a video called something like 'a bunch of sounds / voices that I can make'. This guy got picked up by Geico for that video alone. AHH here it is: Check him out. That video bought him a new car just for being a guy that can do voices, etc. Oh heres the commercial they used him in:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cKP84cb17k...feature=related Edited February 5, 2008 by TapeWurm
Wizard
Places to hit up for VAs is obviously L.A., Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton and Sacramento (TX) and NYC. I dunno why, but a majority of those are quiet accurate.
Sybarite Paladin AxL
On an un-researched note, I think you won't find much appreciation as a voice actor in America. From what I hear, it's treated as a hobby, side-career at best. Unlike Japan, where you're revered if you do it right. Also, if they managed to retire just by voice-acting, doesn't that naturally increase the value of their opinion, rather than decreasing it? Just a thought.
