How does this work with bootleggs and stuff? Does it need a mod chip? Is there a way to download games and then transfer them?

Well it depends on what DVD Drive your 360 has, their are different methods of doing this depending on what DVD Drive you have.

nowadays you can pretty much find firmware mods with recovery mode so just in case you think you brick it, it recover back to the previous state.

Not only is it the most efficient tool to mod firmware but it's also brick proof and a good investment.

not unless you carefully remove it then re-stick it back, you can use a blow dryer to do the trick.

Using a Blow dryer and an exacto knife, you heat the sticker serial with the dryer then take it off delicately with the exacto knife, open up the box, hack away, then carefully place the sticker back on, your "warrenty" isn't voided.
