Still, Star Ocean 2 defies criticism, in my opinion.

Is that good or bad? I've never touched the series... which would you recommend as a starting point?

In a good way.

 

I'd start with the first one, just because it cemented a lot of things that are common in the so-called Star Ocean "universe". but it doesn't really matter. I haven't finished any of the games yet, btw.

This is just what Microsoft needed. Some good jrpg games to bring in sceptics like me.

jrpgs have always been the weak point for MS. that seems to be changing, maybe these titles will help the 360 sell a bit better in japan. when blue dragon, and eternal sonata released there was a jump in 360 sales in the land of the rising sun.

Lost Odyssey is a good jRPG on X360. Just wondering why it didn't get the deserved love.

The sh!t performance and all round being a watered down FF. That and the nonsensical storyline.

But the beginning sequence with the army of dung beetle dudes was awesome.

True but there are no other battles like the first one throughout the rest of the game.

 

In fact there isn't anything as exciting or on such a large scale as Lost Odyssey's intro. I still love the game

Similar to the Medal of Honor games. The intro sequence was awesome then drawn out boredom through the rest. I haven't gotten far into Lost Odyssey yet. I'm tied up inbetween games (LEGO Indiana Jones). I want to wait to where I can have a long sit down with it.
