BlackKnight Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I've got to reinstall myself. Will get on as soon as I've got it all setup.
ken_cinder Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Ok I am infact waiting in the first RA2 channel........I think. Kind of hard to tell, as the actual name isn't shown in another client. In Tiberian Sun, the default channel is called "GDI Barracks" but would show up as Tiberian_Sun_1 to other clients that go through the listing.
BlackKnight Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Ok here's what's happening for me. I've installed, patched, copied the HOSTS. In game I go to Internet, enter details and eventually got it to work. Now when I click Custom Match, I connect and find myself in a channel called 'USA Command'. However within 10 secs of just sitting here I get an error 'You have been disconnected from the server'. Any ideas?
ken_cinder Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 That might have been me, I restarted the server. The SVN build doesn't appear to be showing users in the GUI of the main server app, doesn't have a context menu anymore either (I think they're trying to do away with the GUI entirely......at least, stripping it down to nothing but a console)
BlackKnight Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I don't think its you- it's happening consistently.
ken_cinder Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Can you hop on IRC? I think I've figured out the problem (Devs fault, but easily corrected), and theres no sense spamming it up in here.
ken_cinder Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 BlackKnight was having problems connecting and staying connected with RA2 last night. I'm not entirely aware of what is causing the problem, or if it's even on my end. I've made a couple changes, but I need someone with Tiberian Sun or newer to help me out here! So far, only he has tried connecting through RA2 unsucessfully. Not sure if it's just this game, or a WOL problem across the board. If you are going to connect with RA2, make sure you have patch 1.006. If anything else, the latest patch. Just follow the Tiberian Sun instructions, as they encompass ALL WOL clients. Get ahold of me on IRC or something if you intend to help/play, so I can assist/play too!
BlackKnight Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Dunno if this helps, but are these the same messages you get? Invalid password and all, I mean.
ken_cinder Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 Woah! No, those are from the Strike Team server, officially backed by EA and where you now go for WOLv2 games. The changes in my HOSTS file have not been made to yours, or taken effect. You aren't even connecting to my server.
BlackKnight Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Well I just checked the HOSTS file I downloaded here against my original (which I backed up). I'm definitely using yours. \\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS contains #Westwood Online PvPGN addresses pvpgn.game-server.cc irc.westwood.compvpgn.game-server.cc gameres.westwood.compvpgn.game-server.cc servserv.westwood.compvpgn.game-server.cc apireg.westwood.com
ken_cinder Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 Have you done a DNS flush, or rebooted since altering it though? If you have done neither, there is a possibility that it hasn't taken effect.
BlackKnight Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I rebooted and flushed DNS. No dice. So I uninstalled Westwood Online Components, deleted the WOL config ini from the RA2 folder, reinstalled, recopied the HOSTS file. Still no luck- same result. I always end up at the Strike Team server.
ken_cinder Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 Sounds like you may need to follow the advice in the last couple posts here. - http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/forums/wi...file-61464.html Won't load for me now, so if you need to, use the google cached page. - http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:UxYmt7...cd=19&gl=ca
BlackKnight Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 They suggest I disable the DNS Client service. So I did. Service isn't running but RA2 still connects to the same place.
ken_cinder Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 We got it working, no hostname to hostname translation for those with no direct connection to the internet (Router etc). BK whupped my @$$ in RA2.
