Alpha
Unfortunately today we had a spambot that managed to PM over 3,000 of our members to an MSN phishing site. We have disabled BBCODE in PM's for now and also modified the message that was sent. We sincerely apologize to all members who received this PM. As far as we know, 1Emulation is not hacked, but unfortunately these spam softwares have become more advanced. Although we have edited all the PMs .... if there is a slight chance that you still see the original PM or still have the original PM open from before we did the changes, please DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. The original contents of the PM: Title: Important! For all fans www.1emulation.comPLEASE READ: http://www.1emulation.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28910 ::...THIS MESSAGE IS FROM A SPAMBOT, PLEASE DELETE IT FROM YOUR INBOX.:THIS MESSAGE IS FROM A SPAMBOT, PLEASE DELETE IT FROM YOUR INBOX [link edited out]THIS MESSAGE IS FROM A SPAMBOT, PLEASE DELETE IT FROM YOUR INBOX. As one can see, they give you a link that suppositely goes to "THIS MESSAGE IS FROM A SPAMBOT, PLEASE DELETE IT FROM YOUR INBOX", which is not a real subdomain on our server. When you highlight the link, you'll find it instead linking (by looking at the bottom of your browser) to a chinese (.cn) phishing domain for MSN. Again, we apologize. P.S. If any have been wondering why so many members are online right now, they are not spam bots. Just members who received an email stating that they received a PM, which is how they set their account upon registration on 1Emulation. UPDATE: We have currently disabled private messaging for all users who are in the "Members" group. That means all members who have less than 100 posts will not be able to currently send a private message to another member on our forums. We will re-enable the feature once we find an adequate solution for this problem. - 1Emulation Staff

That means all members who have less than 100 posts will not be able to currently send a private message to another member on our forums. Good idea, and leave it disabled. That will stop spambots from PMing anyone, ever.

I think the private messaging system remains as an essential tool that must be available for all members. I've met a lot of good people over the years because of it.
