fumanchu
i have been messing about with dosxbox for the first time and im having some problems.i downloaded raptor which looks a great shooter anyway its in zip form about 1.9mb and it was released on dos.so i put the zip file in the dosfiles directory and then once i started up the emu and went to the game i hit the a button which then asked me to type in the name of the game.so obviously i was going to type in raptor.zip which is the name of the file but the name of the file was already at the bottom of the screen.so then it took me to the configuration menu and in the cdimage option i set it to none as obviously it isnt a cd file.but as soon as i try and load it i get an error about path invalid or sometimes a cd mounting issue.ive messed around with a few of the options,so has anyone got any advice or help?thanks. ken_cinder
Unzip it for starters, you need access to the setup EXE to create necessary configuration for sound etc. There is more than 1 EXE in there, so DOSBox can't know what the program is or that setup must be run first. P.S. Just go with default options in the setup, and use SB16 for sound. If SB16 doesn't work, try Waveblaster.

ken_cinder
Not true - Configuration data for games is now stored based on the path in which the game is located. This allows you to have separate configuration data for, say, E:\GAMES\KQ4\SIERRA.EXE and E:\GAMES\KQ3\SIERRA.EXE Earlier versions of DOSXBox worked this way, but somehow that code got overwritten, so I've had to make a new method. Basically this means that you're going to have to reconfigure your games. You need to enter the precise filename you want to run. I haven't used DosXbox in a while, but I have run Raptor and Pinball Fantasies before with it. Leaving it inside the zip may or may not work, but you certainly can't just call the zip file and expect it to know which EXE to load.
ken_cinder
I was thinking PC DOSBox with regards to entering a filename. Regardless, what I already said stands true. I just ran Doom II and Pinball Fantasies again on my Xbox. Unpack the zip, and find the EXE file from "Select Game".You CANNOT have things inside a ZIP, it doesn't work. I tried it with Raptor. It MAY work if theres only 1 EXE inside said ZIP, but the readme from the latest DosXbox doesn't even have the word "Zip" in it.......so go figure. fumanchu
there is only one exe inside the zip so i will try out what you are saying thanks cinder.
ken_cinder
When I tried to run RAP.EXE, it insisted I run SETUP.EXE first, so hopefully it came with an existing config file too.

ken_cinder
All I can really say there, since I don't know many DOS shmups and only have a dozen or so classic games I REALLY enjoy, is to visit this place. http://www.the-underdogs.info/ Loads of info on old games, and anything classed as Abandonware or given permission to distribute by the original author can be had for download. Legally too I might add. (Anything still commercially viable etc links to places of purchase etc)
