1TB hard drive

I finally caved, bought another hard drive. I didn't NEED it, as I tend to burn most things, but it was cheap so I figured what the hell.

 

I'm thinking to myself now, I'll never need all this space, but I was saying I wouldn't need more than 40GB only like 4 or 5 years ago.......yeah right.

 

Started dumping movies\TV shows back onto the drive for streaming on the Xbox's in other parts of the house. So much space.......I'm going to need to go on a download binge.

 

I need another case too, using one I swapped for a PC I gave a family member because I liked the sleek design of it. Bad choice, only has 3x3.5" bays. I had to remove my card reader to put this drive in.

Maybe I'll just get another case and go with 6 1TB drives lol

Well certainly... With so much space.. It would be awesome to have such a collection to stream to the 360 and such. Full Seasons of whatever show... blocks and blocks of movie categories. Might as well make use of your new toys.

I actually use original Xbox systems in the house for that, no need for HD crap. I have 3 Xbox systems setup for this purpose. 1 in my office, 1 in the living room and 1 in the basement. All networked semi-wirelessly to eachother (Wireless routers upstairs and downstairs in a bridge setup).

No not bragging, all of this is actually done on the cheap.......I'm a frugal cheap SOB.

Well then. What the hell are you gonna do to put a dent in so much space? Nevermind... Thats not important. What is important, is this ends up being enough for the time being...

Sounds good, yeah I wanted to upgrade my 500gb xbox1 to a 1Tb Harddrive, does anyone have any suggestions of the best place to buy 1? would newegg be the best place to get one..btw how cheap did you get yours? and whats the average price of one?

i have 2 1 tb ext and 2 500gb ext not to mention the 2 tbs inside the cpu u think thats a bit overkill???

I have a 500GB and two 160GB drives. I think I'm going to RAID0 the two 160GB drives for the extra speed boost like I had before. I miss that. I have an external 500GB Seagate for dumping my HD stuff onto to watch on my 360 too, it's really handy.

 

I see a lot of people with 1 big drive instead of 2/3 smaller ones. They're missing out on double the speed when it comes to archive extraction, file conversion etc etc. I get around 50-60MB/s when unrarring from one drive to another, while only typically 25-30MB/s using the same drive. Not to mention converting an avi or whatever to DVD literally takes half the time when the task is shared between two drives.

I recently threw in a 1 TB into my xbox. Have like 300 xbox games alone. Not really into the movie thing though. The box has become my gaming powerhouse (eventhough I have the 360 and ps3) especially for lightgun games (thank you BP).

 

Anyways I picked mine up for $100 (plus the adapter). It was one of the eco-friendly western digital yada yada. Run it with an ind bios and voila

I don't get using RAID in a home environment, especially RAID 0. If any disk in the array fails in RAID 0, you lose ALL your data. Not worth the meager performance increase it provides.

Then there's using it to provide redundancy, who in a home environment can actually claim to have enough sensitive data that requires wasting money on two drives for identical data? Almost nobody.

 

RAID is such a waste for home use.

I have two softmodded XBOXes with small HDDs in them. When I mean small I mean, 1 80GB Maxtor and a 120 GB HDD. What I would do with a 1 TB HDD is this.

 

I would fill it with 100 GBs of anime that I would never watch, television shows for those occasional lonely evenings, 30 GBs worth of music and Video Game Soundtracks, 300 GBs of PS2 ISOs, how many ever GBs of PSX ISOs, XBOX ISOs, pornographic videos, full emulator roms sets and whatever other documents I've written over the years.

I know the risks involved but I wouldn't store anything on the drives that I couldn't easy get back. I noticed 10-15% performance increase with RAID0, so the benefits outweigh the negatives for me.
