Why do so many early arcade games have the "winners don't use drugs" logo on them? Did the FDA have to pay them to put it's logo on there as advertisement?

It was a looooooooooooooooooooong time ago. I actually think it was a politians doing, but I don't know. I remember first getting my first Neo Geo emulator... I remember the joy I had when you can leave the region to jap, and totally bypass that message altogether.

But I seriously doubt that the gov paid to have anything put on there... I remember all the heat games got back then, Im sure there was political reasons... and not someone paying to have it up there.

Another effect of moral panic.

What's the FDA got to do with it? I'm pretty sure when I turn my TMNT on downstairs, it clearly shows the "FBI" emblem with "Winners don't do drugs!" at the bottom.

I think they should bring it back. I would get all nostalgic if I saw that every time I turned on my 360.

Wasn't the "Just Say No" campaign more or less a flop in the end?

Out of respect for arcades, I would have said no.

You're probably right either way, people will do what they want and not really listen to an arcade machine.
