Ah so it was external, oh dear. Was it a high desk? One knock and it explodes? They don't make them very tough.

Well, they don't make them in 2TB but the Freecom ToughDrive can be dropped from 2 metres high and suffer no damage.

Isnt there a few ways to syphon the data? McGyver the hell out of it and redeems something/ anything? Or is that more work than just taking the time and getting everything again.

I think that you'd have to take the drive to a professional specializing in data recovery. That kind of service costs more than a new drive.

My 100gb drive gets thrown over my back like a gunny sack, its not even screwed in inside.

Works every time.

Maybe should just invest in network storage? So you won't have to worry about knocking anything over.
