From 0.166, MESSUI and MAMEUI dat files will work this way:

The menu options to find mameinfo.dat and history.dat have been removed.

A new directory option (DAT files) has been added.

MESSUI and MAMEUI will be able to display the contents of up to 6 specific DAT files. These are:

- history.dat

- mameinfo.dat

- messinfo.dat

- sysinfo.dat

- command.dat

- story.dat

* Create a folder to hold these files (the default foldername is dats).

* Use the Directory option for DAT files to select this folder.

* Quit MESSUI / MAMEUI, so that your choice is saved.

* Download the 6 files:

- history.dat - http://www.arcade-history.com/?page=download

- mameinfo.dat - http://mameinfo.mameworld.info/

- messinfo.dat - http://www.progettosnaps.net/messinfo/

- sysinfo.dat - http://www.progettoemma.net/mess/extra.html

- command.dat - (see below)

- story.dat - http://www.arcadehits.net/mamescore/home.php?show=files

Notes:

- mameinfo.dat contains some European characters. These do not display correctly. If this bothers you, you need to open the file in Notepad, and Save As UTF-8. Then it will work fine. However, if the file contained any Japanese characters (we don't know of any), they will get corrupted. You'll have to decide what you prefer.

- messinfo.dat comes in 2 versions, UTF-8 and 1252. Both display normally, but again, European characters are corrupt. If you wish to fix this, you must open the 1252 version in Notepad, and Save As UTF-8. Then it will work fine. However, if the file contained any Japanese characters (we don't know of any), they will get corrupted. You'll have to decide what you prefer.

- command.dat as available from various places will not display properly. This is because of the illogical use of block delimiters in the file. A fixed version is included with the latest version of MAMEUIFX. Alternatively, since the file doesn't change too often, a copy is attached below.

* Put the files into your 'dats' folder, start up the emulator, and it should all work perfectly!
