Version 0.276.1 has been released. It contains some late changes from the devs, and some other minor changes under the hood.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the latest version of MAMEUI.

Did something change in the path settings or folder location of Mame.ini over the past few versions of MAMEUI? (since v0.272)

The new v0.276.1 version of MAMEUI is not retaining my previous directory / path settings (roms, chd's, etc) and my Mame.ini file is being reset to an empty default Mame.ini file (with no paths) every time I launch after I extracted the new v0.276.1 version of MAMEUI over my previous version (previous version is v0.272 - Nov 27, 2024). I have had no issues overwriting MAMEUI to existing directories in the past.

I have also tried copying over my previous mame.ini file with all paths to the new version folder, but it keeps being reset and the path info is lost whenever I launch MameUI again.

When I manually add the directory paths in MAMEUI, the paths are still being reset / are gone when I launch MAMEUI again. I have tried write-protecting Mame.ini, and even though the original mame.ini file contents does not change (due to write-protect flag), the directory paths are still being reset to default values (when viewed in MAMEUI) when I next launch MAMEUI. So not sure where it is reading/writing the path info to now - Has the mame.ini location been changed from the previous ini folder location?

Thanks

There's been a few complaints about that, although I haven't changed anything in that area. Of course, it doesn't happen for me.

All I can suggest (which seems to work) is to change all the relative paths to absolute ones, in mame.ini, ini\mame.ini, and ini\ui.ini

For example if it said "roms", change that to "C:\mameui\roms" (or wherever your mameui is installed).

And most importantly, make sure that inipath is set to "c:\mameui\ini" (so it is a folder from where mameui is installed), in mame.ini and ini\mame.ini .

This is a bug that can affect mame and all derivatives, but for some reason mameui is affected more than the others.

There's a rework of the options system planned, although I don't know when I'll have the time to do it.

Very similar to the folders path problem in HBMame, but at this time even with absolute paths is not working for me (Stopped one week ago).

Didn't try MameUI at this moment, so can't say if is failing at my side...

Thanks for the feedback Robert. I already had absolute path names in my mame.ini and ui.ini files.

I was able to solve the problem by copying my mame.ini file that had always resided in the MAMEUI64\INI folder, over to the MAMEUI64 root folder (eg where the MAMEUI executable resides), and when I then ran MAMEUI, it re-created a good copy of mame.ini (with my settings) in the MAMEUI64\INI folder.

When I ran the newer version of MAMEUI with no mame.ini in the root folder, a blank mame.ini was created in the MAMEUI64\INI folder (with no path info, etc), which also overwrote the previous good mame.ini in the INI folder.

Perhaps the newer versions of MAME/MAMEUI now requires the mame.ini to reside in the root folder (I previously only had mame.ini in the INI folder).

Thanks for your help.

Just tried with a fresh copy of Mameui and everything works fine. No mame.ini file created outside the ini folder, and options are saved properly as always.

Anyway I remember having this kind of problems some releases ago randomly, with some ini and avi files being created at the root folder. Don't think it's a Mameui bug itself.

Found out what happened, but not why. Some of the default settings from mame are changed for mameui, but for some unknown reason they changed back, so causing problems for some people. I've just had to fix it up.

Hi Robert, I have just downloaded the latest version of MameUI 0.276.1 and I seem to be having the same issues as above. My game.ini files are being saved in the root of Mame rather than in the Mame ini folder. Whenever I make any changes to Mame in settings i.e directory of Roms, Shaders etc, they are not being saved, when I come out and go back in to Mame. Is there any fix for this please?

Thanks very much for all of your hard work and for any help you can provide.
