can't really do much untill it gets updated with vmm

Use MAMEoX and not Mame-X as it's the successor to it. Also, you can find all the standard pre-compiled binaries at the usual places (Xbins FTP). Playing older games works fine, but the newer stuff won't work until VMM is implemented like Prican said.

And what is "VMM"? What does it make new game do?

virtual memory is what is being used in a few emu's like fbax, kawa-x, and surreal64.

 

its basic use is make the hdd act like ram to makeup the lack of ram.
