Whoa...holy crap. Are you using Win XP?

If you are, I suggest you reinstall Windows XP (no need to reformat). Just pop the CD in the drive, boot up from it, and just follow the instructions. That should work.

Dude, how the hell is that possible? Do you live alone or with someone?

Sounds like you're missing an operating system. Seriously, though, it's possible you contracted a virus and it deleted important files or formatted your hard drive. That or you accidentally deleted an important file to the boot up process. GryphonKlaw's advice should work for any operating system, not just XP. Of course, this is assuming that you do have the intall disc. If you don't (i.e. you bought a Compaq) try to use the restore disc, otherwise you're SOL (Sure Out of Luck according to my Junior High shop teacher).

Boot the machine with a Linux LiveCD and see if if the old OS still exists. One of the earlier posters was probably right. Your windows machine probably caught a virus.

I doubt it. I think they only care if you have kiddie porn on the computer (that's how Gary Glitter got caught). Unless you have a massive amount of PS2, Xbox, and/or Gamecube games, you'll be fine. If you do, though, they might report you (dunno, though).
