2D because its fast and furious. I also prefer the way super moves and such look in 2D games. Everything seems more vibrant and alive.

But in time when 3D can be rendered at such a fast rate with all the cool special effects as 2D fighters, then I'll have a change of heart. But the current state of 3D fighters doesn't really impress me.

2D is at it's end.......I'm a BIG hater of 2D fighting games because of their repetitious nature over the last 3 years.

3D doesn't have a whole lot to offer yet (Just a handful of some decent games) but it has WAY more potential to go further.

2D fighters are at a DEAD END, just accept it.

i was never a big fan of 3d fighters, even tho VF is pretty kool. I guess the way i see it, i think 2d games such as SF, Xmen, KOF, it takes more hands on interaction with the joy stick or pad. it takes a lot more work to perfect moves and combos. yes 3d fighrters are beautiful pieces of work and i admire that, but when it comes to a skillful hands, i think 2ders are the way to go. dont get me wrong, i respect 3d gamer players, and it also takes skills...i jus see 2ders to be a lot more fulfilling...

I agree that 2d is at a dead end right now. it seems that nothing new can be done. but I still prefer the look of hand drawn sprites and the faster style of most 2d fighters. thats just my opinion. 3d has a bright future and there are some stand out 3d fighters. but for the time being I stick by 2d.

but the question riot poses is which has more potential. so I say 3d has the most potential right now. unless some breakthrough is made in 2d gameplay.

Well... *gives you time to look at my avatar*

Project Justice is the perfect marriage of both. DAMN, do I love that game!!!

Well, IMO, 2D is best for the fast, in your face, boo-ya!!!-type gameplay. 3D is for the serious, i came here to break your neck like a chicken, type gamers, who are in it for the competition. VF4 is a perfect example.

Anon.

I dunno if 3d is more tournament ready then 2d. there is a long history of 2d tournaments. and I would consider VF4 to be the only 3d fighter tournament worthy

Ok, I retract my earlier statement. 3D has the most potential, but I still except much more improvement in the 2D department.

Its just like the animation business, when Toy Story came along most other movies were still hand drawn. Now this latest Disney movie is the last hand drawn animation and will go to 3D. 2D fighters aren't at the critical limit yet where they have no place to improve. There are many improvements that can and hopefully will be made. Perhaps Street Fighter 4 will address these issues...hopefully.

i'm down with 2D for life, they can just put some 3d background or whatever to tart it up.
