The Nintendo Press Conference From Ed's View.

Recommended Posts

Opening with this.

Amongst others, there were Atari, Activision, Namco, THQ, and Vivendi showing their support for the system.

To me, it looked great, and sounds really promising. The version of Metroid they had showing was incredible, with a map on one screen and first person action on the other. It didn't, to be honest, look that different from the GC version, but more on that once I play with both the PSP and DS tommorow.

There was a lot more talk about the innovation and revolution of it; the touch screen technology, the four buttons, the full WiFi capabilities of it (This got a resounding applause and "WOOOHOOOO" from the americans. I turned to my friend and said "Easily impressed," because this is pretty much a standard in everything, including toasters. Still, it means a lot for wireless multiplayer gaming.) and the way that everything you saw was genuine footage and that you could play it tommorow.

Ed Zitron is a good friend of mine who works for Computer and Video Games Magazine over in Europe. This is also a shameless plug for a forum he runs with a couple of friends too :(. You can catch the his review on the Press conference here. It's a good read and it's funny! How he does it is beyond me.

Favorite line by him is when they explained the DS's specs, this is what he said about the inital reaction of the crowed.

Read it, love it, make it your child or something. Ed owns you!

But it seems like the psp will be alot more powerful, because the ds is said to be slightly more powerful than the n64, and the psp is said do be slightly less powerful than the ps2.

In the end, its not always about hardware, it's about the games they put out on it.

So anyways it a DC? And what is it anyways? A new system or a portable or a preexisting console?

...which means the psp will STILL own over the DS :(

The PSP might hit the 200 mark because of it's specs. Nintendo is aiming for a $149 price tag with the DS.

The ds is Nintendo's new console. It has two screens, and the bottom screen is a touch-button pad. It's a good idea, but I still reckon the psp is going to be alot better. And I don't think the price will matter - the gamecube has been $50 cheaper than the other consoles for a while, and the ps2's still beating the pants off of it in sales.

The DS is as widely supported as the PSP, so I expect good competetion between the two.

Actually i dont think it is. I think the Cube is the highest selling since i's price drop, plus just recently nearly all of the cubes in NA had nearly or had run out of stock.

Ever since the Cube's price drop, it's been selling like free cookies at a bake sale. But the PS2 still leads the market by a wide percentage.
