To All Emulation Sites Who Have Linked To Us...

Recommended Posts

To all Emulation Sites who have linked to us:

Many of you have refused to link to our site, www.1emulation.com, out of

fears that it in itself is illegal, because it contains links to

illegal content. Some of you have cited hearsay, indicating that

others with similar sites have been arrested, prosecuted, and

incarcerated, which is patently false. Such rumors do nothing but

create fear and chaos within our community. The fact of the matter is,

linking to illegal content is not prohibited, and never has been.

The tradition of all open societies, including the United States, is to

allow freedom of association, including with criminals. In practical

terms, this means that we are free to associate with those violating

intellectual property law. What we are NOT free to do is to violate

copyrights ourselves, or to distribute material which breaks the law.

Linking to other people who do, on the other hand, is not prohibited.

As a matter of logic, all search engines would be criminally liable if

that were the case, which it clearly is not. The only exception to

this in all of American law is the Patriot Act, which prohibits giving

"expert assistance or aid to terrorists." A case in federal court

right now is attempting to convict a man who moderated a messageboard

where some known terrorists posted messages. However, note that this

legislation is expressly targeted against terrorism, and I am not

linking through my site to any terrorists. As such, you ought to drop

all of your baseless fears of my site--it is perfectly legal, and you

have nothing to fear from linking to it.

I have sent this exact message as an email to all other emulation

sites who refuse to link to us.

Sincerely,

GameCop (1Emulation.Com Owner/CEO)

GameCop, make them understand....translate it to different languages just in case.

But yeah, 1Emulation.Com is a place for emulation lovers, not a place for warez.

Its true its not illegal to link to sites that contain illegal material. It can get you threaded by the copyright holder though. :D But taking down the offending link solves that problem. People are too uptight sometimes. I swear on some sites its a contest to see who can be the biggest prig about berating anyone who speaks of anything that might be remotely related to playing a game that you didn't buy! o.O

Kind of ironic, that when I tried to link to this post, the link was edited. I hope that they look past the illegal material to see the great community, but for some sites, it goes beyond the illegal subject matter - it's just a matter of trying to be as clean as possible (Some of these sites were around when Nintendo and Sony went ape-crap crazy and began their onslaught against emulation.)

They want to be a site that's legal. Then take off all those copyrighted pictures...You're breaking copyright laws by doing that and not stating that they're not yours...omg owned

Ya I remember when fox would threaten any site that posted pics from the simpsons. That was the silliest.

It seems to me that corporations have cooled the ridiculous lawsuits threats in the last few years. no more threatening sites over a few pictures and such. at least I hope so!

assuming you're speaking of ngemu, what copyrighted images do they have?

To defend NGemu, this isn't about community or anything like that, but it's to uphold what they stand for. If they don't want to link to this site because it'll enable many more people to obtain files illegally, then i'm willing to support them on that.
