Oh, sorry about that.

 

You'll need the latest DivX, the latest Xvid, the latest ffdshow, and some other stuff.

 

You should get this program called Gspot, it let's you open any video file in it and it tells you what codecs it uses and if you have them.

Just as a reminder, VLC does not use installed codecs, but uses its own plugins instead. So if you still have trouble reading a file after installing codecs, you can give it a try.
