How do I save my game? I can't find any save points in the first town.

I'm under theImpression that the game gives you a menu right from the beginning with items such as "Start a new Quest", "Continue Quest" etc. and that the game might save automatically one you've gone past a certain point.

 

However, I can't verify this because it's been a while since I've played Dragon Quest.

 

Have you tried reading through any of the FAQs in GameFAQs?

Yes. One of them says to talk to the king in the castle, but I've tried that and nothing happened.
