Agozer
Today, my mom left for our summer cottage, so she took the car. I stayed here and, like usual, called her later to make sure that she had gotten there without any trouble. But there had been trouble. Apparently halfway there, my mom noticed that the windshield was getting too dirty, so she switched on the windshield wipers... Lo and behold, the wipers had been stolen! Our car is a 2001 Toyota and has unique windshield wipers, so buying temporary cheap ones was out of the question. Neither of us realized that the wipers were gone when I helped her to pack stuff in the car. Now, she's supposed to be coming back on Sunday and hope for no rainstorms... Nothing like this has ever happened before, although some people here tend to steal windshield wipers from nearby parked cars if the ones they have are crappy, rather than going to the store and bying a new pair... I'm quite mad right now. Edited August 6, 2004 by Agozer

L.S.D
Damn, at our place, people normally steal the tires, sport rims or maybe just the whole car Never heard of one stealing wipers before. Feel sorry for you
Gryph
Wow...that really sucks...how's the forecast for the weekend? Is there a huge blackmarket for windshield wipers there in Finland? Detective Max Payne should be assigned this case, justice would be swift.

As for the second question: I don't know. I mean who is retarded enough to steal windshield wipers?...actually I can answer that... Some people are just looking to steal anything, so the wipers were the only thing they could get. The tired and the hub caps are secured with a special bolt that can be unlocked with a special wrench. Picking the locks isn't such an easy task either. Chaotica
If the windshield wipers are in a unique class, then I can see why they would be hot to filch, because they would be in demand. And your car is still quite new, so it would be a target for thieves. Everytime I park my car at the train station to go to the city, I get the jitters, because it is such a hot spot for thieves, and my car is still fairly new, and a popular model. Thieves here will just about steal anything off your car, dismantling it more quickly and more efficently than a Ferrari pit crew. That's if they just don't steal your entire car altogether. So yeah, I feel sorry for you, Agozer. I hope everything resolves itself for you soon.
Agozer
The thing is that my neighborhood is one of the safest there is. But then again, that doesn't make it crime-free, even though the parking lot has video surveillance. Edited August 6, 2004 by Agozer
OverlordMondo
Our whole car was stolen once, down in Kansas City. But I don't really remember anything that happened (I was too young). Recently, my mom's car was broken into. Her notebook was stolen. With all the crap we leave in there, you'd think other stuff would've been stolen with it...but then, knowing our town, it was probobly just some stoners. Skythe
At work, for about 5 times, I've had my Powerades stolen out of my own cooler (which about the 3rd time I switched to a lunchbag with a lock on the zippers). Each time using different methods to prevent it from happening again. Then, today at work, someone decided to go into my own car and take 2 Powerades out. Someone must of thought I was too stupid to realize 2 out of 12 Powerades were gone.
