Fan made Chrono Trigger remake stopped!

Is it just me, or has Square-Enix sucked since it began? The companies were better off alone.

I remembered there was another fan sequel of Final Fantasy that took off where 6 (US 3) left off. I think it was subtitled The Power Within. Anyone knows what happened to that project?

This is technically legal since it isn't being commercialized. But their isn't no EULA to this game per-se. If all things were like this, we wouldn't be seeing total conversions or remake mods for games.

It's a matter of stolen intellectual property. You can't just go and make a Street Fighter game and include Ken and Ryu and a slightly modified logo and expect it to be "legal" without Capcom's backing, even if you aren't commercializing it. At least not in the states.

 

It's not like a total conversion because those use the mod-author's intellectual property. It's been a while since an ambitious mod based on someone else's property has been released. Something with a few minor "borrowed" elements might get through, because that typically isn't going to hurt the property owner any.

 

That said, those screens piqued my interest, and I didn't even like Chrono Trigger particularly. A "cease and desist" doesn't mean that Square hasn't taken an interest in the project. Potentially, this could mean a product nearing completion with a minimal production cycle for Sqenix, and a chance for the developers to have their names attached to a Sqenix game. Not a bad deal either way. It's just guesswork, but it could happen.

I read about this yesterday. Yes, it's sad, but it seems like Squareenix is just protecting it's assets... Chrono Trigger is still theirs after all.

What a waste of an awesome looking game though. Hopefully they can just change the skins and plot a little and call it "chr0n0 trigger" or whatever, but I doubt it.
