Source is the name of the new engine by Valve. They just ported Half-Life to that engine so it looks better. A digital remastering if you will.

Namely Half-Life with Half-Life 2's engine. Nice.

Well since this thread is alive and kicking, might as well give you guys the latest news.

Valve has sent Vivendi Release Candidate 5 earlier this week, hopefully this is the last one. Apparantly they were down to 3 show stopping bugs but let's all hope it's fixed now. And don't worry about that lawsuit thing and the fact that Vivendi has the right to hold it off for 6 months, they DON'T want to do that since they would lose a lot of money.

Some more news (yes, it's a double post, I'm addicted to them now):

Well the rumors are swirling that Half-Life 2 is just about done. As you guys know we carried a story a little while ago mentioning that Valve was submitting release candidates to Vivendi doing their final bughunting. Word has it that Valve has submitted RC5 recently addressing just a couple of bugs. Assuming those are fixed and nothing more is found in further testing we could be looking at a gold announcement in the very near future. The guys at CSNation, HL2Fallout, and even the former GoneGold guy are all saying this.

This is of course assuming VU doesnt hold the game up in court. But given the last couple of glimpses we've had of VU's financial situation they probably arent very eager to do that.

Basically the rumors are that we can expect a gold announcement in the coming days.

Will do. Here's another update: Steam Preload Phase 6 is now going underway. This is the last one...hopefully the game goes gold soon.

NOVEMBER RELEASE "EXTREMELY LIKELY" AS HALF-LIFE 2 SUBMITTED FOR CERTIFICATION

BBFC in possession of Valve's game to slap on an age rating. Surely this means it's done. Doesn't it?

16:50 Valve Software's Half-Life 2 has been submitted to the BBFC for certification, we've learnt this afternoon, news which adds credence to recent rumours that Vivendi is shortly to announce that the hotly anticipated first-person shooter sequel has finally 'gone gold'.

Speaking under strict conditions of anonymity, an industry insider squealed earlier informing us that "as far as Vivendi is concerned, the game [Half-Life 2] is finished" before saying that the title had been passed to PEGI (Pan European Games Information age rating system) for classification, which in turn passed the sequel to the BBFC for certification.

The industry insider added that a November release is now looking "extremely likely".

A BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) spokesperson has confirmed with us within the last few minutes that the government body is indeed in possession of Half-Life 2. However, they could only add at this stage that the first-person shooter is "under evaluation", as far as certification is concerned.

And what, you're no doubt wondering, does Vivendi have to say about all this? Well, actually so are we at the moment. We'd like to report, but at the time of going to press the publisher remained unavailable for comment. Blast their eyes.
